Before there was Mi Landing/singer/songwriter Paul, there was “I play drums in 20 bands and twice a week at church” drummer Paul. I’ve been drumming for over 20 years, and I am inspired by a vast array of genres and drummers.
The drummers that influence me the most are Aaron Gillespie (Underoath/The Almost/solo) Joe Musten (Beloved/Advent) Travis Barker (Blink 182/Transplants) & Tim Baltes (Timbofromkeno on instagram).
I grew up on a lot of pop punk, hardcore and metal. I never got too into blast beats but I will smash the crap out of some breakdowns! Playing in church twice a week for years also taught me to groove, when I wasn’t trying to show off by playing double bass and stupid fast fills that didn’t fit!
If you’ve heard my band THE OKAY, you will hear my focus on creating a solid groove that fits the song, but also adding creative elements to the drums that show my influence and bring out a new layer in the song.

If you’ve heard Mi Landing, then you know I am also a songwriter & vocalist! Drums will always be my first love when it comes to an instrument, but I have worked hard to become the vocalist I am. I am proud of my progress through the years with my vocal range & ability. It’s a unique instrument! My main setup in the studio is a 1980’s Tama Swingstar (you know it’s got that zola-coat!) made in Japan.
